The parents of Andrew are absolutely remarkable. The poise and strength they have shown to make it through this nightmare is amazing. They are truly helping to make the world a better place. They could have just laid down and died, but they are fighting for all the other parents and children out there who are in unsafe situations due to the faulty justice system.
Current events that are happening on front of america's eyes right now that needs to be stopped. Bruce Beresford Redmon cold bloodily murdered his wife and childrens mother Monica in Cancun last year, and is walking free in a remarkably similar case. He has full access to his children and not enough people are lobbying to help Monica's family to get this man locked up. When will people open their eyes? When something happens to those babies.
It has happened once before, history repeats itself, we need to stop this now. How do you think Andrews parents feel watching that guy on TMZ a free man? Unbelievable. Where are our morals? Where is our team spirit America and Canada. We need to get off our couches and away from our TV's and help to make our countries safer and get these people locked up or better yet...

I was watching CNN tonight, and they kept referring to THL winning an "insider's upset" - it just made me wonder who these "insiders" are since you gotta be pretty out of the loop in regards to award season to not see THL as a favorite.

I actually thought Avatar was going to be my upset for a moment there.

Adapted Screenplay and Foreign really caught me off guard there.

THE HURT LOCKER did not make my own Top 10 either, but I do think it's a worthy choice. And Bigelow's win is of course gargantuen in a number of positive ways. I think the film's win puts to rest the post-Oscars speculation that a film that makes so little at the box office has no chance to take the big prize. Actually both the film and Ms. Bigelow were strong favorites for a number of weeks now, and an AVATAR win would have done more than just raise eyebrows.

The cinematography, adapted screenplay and foreign language film categories yielded some mind surprises, though I did in the end go with the winning Argentinian film in the latter category.

I've got a few minor complaints in a few of the categories, but nothing major. THL wasn't even in my top 10 of the year, but it's a worthy winner I can live with.

I wonder what regular people...the kind who only hear about half of the films for the first time on the day they're nominated... thought about Avatar losing. I wonder how many will seek out THL and what they'll think.

I think if it had more marketing muscle behind it, had played in more than 500 theaters at any one time and been advertised as an action picture, it would've made much more than it did.

I still stand behind my statement that Avatar's visual strengths didn't rely on the CG, but the way it was shot... and the way it was shot were not visual effects. LOL so D9 should have won.

Also, I'm iffy about the Cinematography category, considering there is barely any actual photography while shooting Avatar. Has any heavy CG film (or animated film) ever been nominated for Cinematography? (winning is a plus!) - I can't recall.

Glad you agree about IB, Ms. M. Its power and superior craft is so obvious to me, I'm just shocked that it didn't resonate as much as I wanted it to with the award entities. And I'm glad you'll be dropping by Craig's shindig. Should be lots of fun :D

Craig, I wish I could rationally explain my dislike of the film (other than to say that it was relentless boring, save the portions with Vera Farmiga, predictable and an unending parade of product placement). At this point I think I probably resemble the crazy lady yelling in the subway because so many people I respect like the film, but oh well, it's one of those films and I've been there before (Benjamin Button, anyone?)

lol...poor Up in the Air.

My relationship with that movie has been strange. I was actively disliking it through half of it, but then it rallied with the ending. Since then though, it's been downhill all the way. I still like it better than a lot of people, but...eh.

Interesting observations, Goddess D.

I'm with you. When the smoke clears and this year has been hung up for posterity, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS will be the film most associated with 2009 - and it will be the movie that is remembered, studied and adored endlessly.

The ACADEMY may not see it that way. Let's just say that it will have to be their loss.

I watched IB again yesterday afternoon. It's an audacious masterwork. End of story.

I really wish we were having the shindig at your place like we did last year. But we can all hang out at Craig's. That'll be a magnificent blast.

Good times...

Sounds like a match made in heaven. Or the most magnificent approximation I've ever heard of.

A Woody Allen film featuring Ms. Cotillard is certainly intriguing as hell.

This should be spectacular. Thanks for the info, D.

Allen attracts good talent, whether they're well-known or yet-to-be-discovered. Cotillard is one of the hottest actors around. Her beauty and charms are undeniable. What sets her apart is her incredible talent.
